Kiwifruit industry hit by vine-killing bacteria

MAF Biosecurity has tonight received test results confirming that a vine-killing bacteria, which hits gold kiwifruit particularly hard, is present in a Bay of Plenty orchard. The importance of the kiwifruit industry to New Zealand is about $1.5bn each year and in Nov 2009 was 64% of fruit and nut exports and 46% of all horticulture.
